Maybe I need to get peanut butter suet! :)

I haven't seen a downy or hairy since I started four years ago.

Right after the downy left, the bluebirds showed up. How lucky am I?

Thanks to previous comments by Gyda & Elizabeth...I think I am correct in identifying my first downy woodpecker. I just started putting out peanutbutter suet. :~)

Thanks Rich and B, for the compliments on my photos. :) I take photos every week, weather permitting. :) They won't make it here unless I think they're special, though.

*sigh* I got Gail's comment confused as Gyda's, which is why I was surprised. Gail started her sentence with "Gyda" and it registered in my sweet little (dingbat) head as hers. :) I know we wouldn't usually get grackles here. However, it's quite possible they're grackles in Tennessee. :) Looks like grackles in my book. Brewer's are shorter tailed. Sorry for the confusion, everyone.

I was all set to believe they were common grackles but after reading about the Brewer's I'm not sure either. Very slight differences it looks like to me...the common seems to be like it is stretched, slightly larger..a little more than the Brewer's...mine have a very menacing look with that yellow eye..I have the common and the great tailed but not the Brewer's....another mystery??? That blue head is part of the irredescence...the first picture shows a black head with blue shoulders...
