What's your favorite breed and why? 5 Replies

Mine is definitely cochins, mostly because of their sweet disposition, but also because of their so-cute puffy butts! :) I like most of the standard varieties, tho, and love to keep a variety. I lov…

Spring peeps won't be showing up around here for at least another month, I"m thinking. But this warm weather sure makes me wish and squirm with anticipation! (warm being hitting 40 this week). We haven't even seen pussy willows yet, but they should be out any day! :) My egg production is picking up nicely! Seven eggs from 9 hens the last two days in a row! My hens kept laying all winter, tho. They never did quit! They're good girls! :)

still waiting for my baby peeeps. I have been going to the auction weekly. It is great fun to see all the birds, but no peeps. My buddy got a beautiful americana that lays large blue eggs. I am also keeping my eye on the tractor supply store, but so far they are just full of bunnies. Anyone have spring peeps yet?

I have a old girl that is at four this spring and she still gives me a green egg once and awhile, I have to keep her in her own condo, becouse the other girls are trying to kill her, she must be too old and they know it. Isn't is something how do they know she is so old?

Hi Everybody, Just joined the group. I have seven white rock hens that I raised from the incubator. They are only about 8 months old right now and are producing about an egg a day. I started feeding them laying mash, and they started laying a week or so later. We are going to build a bigger coop in the sping so they can get outside. Just love my dixie chicks.

our chicken coop is built up on a old horse trailer chassie, we have a large fenced in area in the back of it so the birds can get out, we have so many cyoties that i cannot let them out to free range. i wish i could let them out so they could eat the bugs. I live in north-eastern illinois, any of you close by?

I found a really great link about the true Araucanas. Here is one page on the site that explains a little about them, vs. the easter eggers, or Americanas. I thought it was really interesting and thought some of you might be interested as well! http://www.araucanasonline.com/page7.html

We can order them at our local feed store. They give you a date by when you have to have your order in. They go by the weather in your area and when it will be best to get them started by.
