Flowers are fun and challenging to paint 5 Replies

You have to work fast to capture a flower in a painting because it might be gone the next day. Sometimes I shoot a photo for reference to finish the painting if I don't get all the details done at on…

Susan, Sorry it took me so long to respond to your queation. When you look closely at the photo where I was working the background you will notice odd roundness of color in the wet paint, this is caused by drizzling salt into the wet paint. Salt is fun to work with and you get some amazing effects. It's also very popular with people who paint on silk scarves. No worries about the extra "r"! LOL

I appologize for that extra "r" in your name, Sheri.

Sherri, I just love this watercolor of the blue jay. I joined a water color class last weekend and wouldn't you know it...we are painting birds. I am curious about how you achieved the background on your painting. It is so beautiful.

Hello Mamie and welcome to the group. Being that I love flower close-ups I do favor the bottom painting, very good shadowing on the wall too! The top one, I'm ready to jump into! Come on spring!

I don't compare to some of the painting on here but I sure do have fun with it :)

Artist Rick Nilson posted this picture of his cat. It had to find out if Phthalo Green tasted better than Sap Green. Funny

So far I've seen painting monkeys, elephants and cats (my George tries to paint) but I missed the horses!

wow that is impressive. Like the horses that paint with a brush in their mouth.
