When I first planted my rhubarb I had three starter shoots, only two survived!
I had a pesky squirle dig up one of the shoots. For three days I battled with him, he finally carried it off!

Celeste, I confess. It was me. My rhubarb isn't nearly as far along as yours and I couldn't resist. I just had to have a teeny-weeny taste. (Yum!)

Celeste, could it be mice? It looks like somthing with teeth got it.

Kathy, you need to get yourself a handtruck to move heavy items like that. Sure helps when moving heavy pots too. I love the Kousa Dogwoods, one of my favorite trees!

Something is eating my Rhubarb . . . Has anyone else had this issue? We've had this plant for 5 or 6 years now & never had an issue with it. We are in Olympia.

Today was the first day without sunshine in over a week here on the Peninsula. Not to be deterred I finally dawned my muck shoes, grabbed my new manly man shovel my gardening daughter bought me for Christmas and transplanted my two-year old Japanese Flowering Dogwood. It has not bloomed since it joined our garden and after some Google research I learned that it will not bloom if it is an area that is too dry. We planted in our front lawn that slopes down and I'm guessing never had enough water in late spring to keep it happy. I've got my fingers crossed that this will work as it is one of my most favorite dogwood trees. It blooms late in the spring and has bright red fruit thingys. Kousa Dogwood.

I also learned today that trying to dig, lift and drag even a small tree for one person is a little much on the old body. The brown tarp helped immensly as I drug it across the lawn and down the gravel pathway to it's new home. Prayers please for this poor dogwood! (and me)

I finally heard the tree frogs last night! Yippie, got to love that sound! I found it cold today...went in to Seattle to Alki and Lincoln Park! Definately still cold folr waterfront activities. The bees are active in my garden!
