It is about 8 inchs tall so does well as a fore ground plant. Doesn't get any extra water and very little fertilizer. I just ignore it till it blooms around christmas. They come in yellow, orange, pink, and red. The foliage looks good all year.

The can get straggly but you can prune them to keep them in shape. They are frost and cold sensitive. You will also get the added benefit of butterflies. With an HOA I might put them in the back and just enjoy them. African Iris might work better al…

Leona Gardiner replied to Sylvia's discussion 'Sago Palm' in the group Zone 9
There is a cycad scale that is hitting the sagos pretty hard. Neem oil and horicultural oil are about the only thing you can use. There has been some added control with the addition of malathion. Make sure to get the bottom of the fronds as well as…

Leona,
Thanks for the reply. My magnolia has been replanted for about a month. I water it every other day. It was in a very sunny place and then I moved it to a more shady spot. It has been sprouting new growth and leaves but the new growth has started wilting.

Regards
Brent

Leona: I love your pictures! They remind me of my cousin, Chuck and Rosie Poole's flowers and plants...they live in Howie-in-the-Hills also (Poole Farm on Buckhill Road). My hubby and I hope to move there in about 10 years so maybe someday we will be near neighbors. Enjoy your gardens...
