We’ve had rain and fog everyday this week. The rain is gradually changing the mounds of gray snow into puddles. The days have been dreary but there is a promise of sunshine next week.
I'm enjoying the gardens of others until mine emerges

Ah! Spring time in Minnesota; black rotting snow, playing pothole slalom and the smell of hot asphalt in the air. It's a little early this year. I'm betting on one more blizzard, about April. Meanwhile those of you in more southerly latitudes are posting and tweeting: The crocuses are blooming! The robins are singing! Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Me? I'm excited because I just saw a smidgen of green at my door, just in time for St Patrick's Day...read more about this great perennial at

STEP THREE – CREATE UNITY IN THE GARDEN:
The woodlands are teaching me so much about landscape design. Unity is a basic principle of garden design

This morning, for the first time since my gardens were destroyed in 09, I wept. Walking around our property, trying to get a feel for it again...and to gain some insight into which direction to go; I came upon the area where a backhoe, boon truck, bobcat and root grinder had repeatedly ran

Turns out the best plants for attracting butterflies to your garden are actually trees. I know! Who would have thought?
File it under the "Well, how about that" category, it just proves that when you think you know it all, you really don't. After attending the WIld Ones native plant conference this past weekend, I've gained a much better
understanding of plant/wildlife relationships, and while there was no bad behavior to report, I am anxious to share some of the more astonishin

Gosh....it's been quite a while since I've last visited here. I nearly forgot the how-to's about scooting around on Gardernersindex! Now that's sad.
I'll be back when I have more news. Just running short on time right now..........but have tons of wonderful things to share.
Until then~

December 25, 2009 my husband and son moved our Japanese Maple! It was too close to our house and growing! I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will survive! We should know before long!
They did a good job with getting a good "root ball". We have kept it watered and plan to feed it and mulch around it next week. I will miss it being right outside my window but now I know not to plant before I plan! I am excited about having a new flagstone patio where the tree once was. I will use co

A couple days ago I noticed one of my indoor plants was wilting. I gave it a little extra water with some fertilizer during the week wich didn't help anything. This weekend I got a lamp that simulates the sun for plants. When I went to put this plant under it I notice all these worm looking things.... I am assuming this is what is killing the plant? Could someone tell me what these are, and how to safely kill them? This plant is outside during the summer.

I am a gardener. I have created and tended two gardens in the past 15 years. My first garden evolved from a need to have cut flowers to take to the cemetery in memory of my son Brian whose tragic death as a teenager left this mother’s heart- broken and her life shattered. His birthday was in August so I planted Zinnias. The therapeutic value of gardening was embraced and evolved into a passion for creating beauty out of chaos
